To provide a functional and personalized experience, such as calculating the distance between your location and a seismic event, we require certain permissions and collect specific information.

A. Location Data

SeismAlert requests access to your device's location (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION and ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION).

• Purpose: We use this data strictly to calculate the distance between your current position and earthquake epicenters and to filter alerts based on your proximity.
• Processing: Location processing happens locally on your device to ensure maximum privacy.
• Control: You can enable or disable location services at any time through your device settings or the app's settings screen.

B. Usage and Device Data

When you use the Service, the application may process certain information automatically, including:

• Your mobile device type and unique ID.
• Your mobile operating system.
• Application preferences (e.g., minimum magnitude threshold, preferred data sources).

2. Data Storage and Local Persistence

Our Service is designed to prioritize local data management:

• Local Database: We use Room and DataStore to store earthquake history and user preferences locally on your device. This data is not uploaded to our servers.
• Map Caching: The Service uses osmdroid for map visualization. Map tiles may be cached locally on your device storage to improve performance and reduce network data usage.

3. Third-Party Data Providers

Our Service fetches real-time seismic information from public authorities:

• USGS (United States Geological Survey)
• INGV (Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia)
• EMSC (European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre)

We do not share your personal identity with these providers. Only technical parameters required for the query (such as magnitude filters) are transmitted to their public APIs.

4. Notifications

If enabled, the app uses background services and WorkManager to send push notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS) to inform you of new seismic activities in real-time.

5. Data Security

The security of your data is important to us. Since your location and preferences are primarily stored locally, the security of your data also depends on your device's security settings.

6. Children's Privacy

Our Service does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children.
